A system developed specifically for the weekend markets will track farmers‘ applications, who are competing against each other for limited commercial plots. Only 2, 736 spots are available between April and November.
Farmers from all over the region will arrive and participate, who is from Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan predominantly. With more than 20,000 applicants staying on the line to be accepted, Ethereum will serve as a record system with constant updates to who was approved or denied access.
Andrey Borodyonkov - a blockchain product manager working for Moscow City Hall added that the blockchain is essential to ensure the applications are unable to be changed. Also, technology is important for keeping track of the audit history.
Moscow‘s government released an official statement that through the Ethereum system the whole dataset is viewable, transparent, and can be downloaded by anyone. Because of that, submissions cannot be modified or deleted.
The new system has left many farmers unhappy but Mr. Belozerov – a strategy and innovations advisor, believes that it will make the information publicly accessible and reduce citizens‘ concerns.
That way farmers could check the database and see why their application was approved or declined. The other reason is that the blockchain will reduce fraud and keep the competition fair.
Developers hired by the Moscow City Hall have been working on the blockchain since 2016 and just recently a new division was formed that will deal with product improvement on the blockchain.
