Following in the footsteps of the competition, Singaporean gaming hardware manufacturer Razer has announced the launch of their own mining software. The program, called Softminer, is a GPU miner which uses the PC power when the machine is idle and rewards the users for it.
Razer announced the news on their Twitter account with a short post and a link to the mining software’s landing page. There it is explained that users can install Softminer and let it use their CPU power when they are not actively using their device. The PC power will be used for supplementing the needs of the distributed mining processes.
The software then ‘pays back’ in the form of Silver tokens, with the number of tokens corresponding to the amount of time the computer was idle, the processor power, and the characteristics of the graphic card. Essentially – the stronger your device and the more time you let it idle, the more rewards you will going to get. The Razer Silver token is described as loyalty credit and can be redeemed for games, other Razor products, and paraphernalia, vouchers, etc.
Just a few weeks ago another tech giant – Asus, launched their partnership with Quantum Cloud in similar efforts. Quantum Cloud gives the opportunity to users to earn a small income by ‘donating’ their idle PC’s power for mining purposes. Just like Razer, Asus also provides a reward for the users who choose to participate, but it’s paid out in cash via platforms PayPal.
