Facebook is making slow, but steady steps toward a blockchain-oriented future. The trend is indicated from Facebook’s recent job announcement, seeking Global Brand Development Lead. The new job offer is a follow-up on Messenger Team Lead David Marcus’s shift to blockchain research and development at Facebook’s Menlo Park headquarters.
It seems Facebook is making a blockchain-based startup, looking the job openings in the company. In the job descriptions, Facebook marks that they have the will to “explore the vast possibilities of Blockchain for users and community.”
Blockchain has been an area of interest for their-expanding social media for some time now. Their user-generated content and community groups are by far unbeatable by their rivals at Google. The technology behind Facebook’s blockchain activities could be used for ad payments, money transfers, data storage and backup, and much more.
On Sunday Facebook has posted a blockchain-related full-time position job offer - Global Brand Development Lead. September has also been filled with job openings on Facebook – the company still seeks Head of Global Community and Media director, Software Engineer, Strategic Planning & Operations Lead, Head of Brand, Product Marketing Lead, and Head of Business Development & Partnerships. All of these job offers are for the main Facebook headquarter at Menlo Park.
In the description of the job offer, the team at Facebook described the core idea behind such a startup:
“Our primary goal is to give what billions of user
s every day don’t have access to in a true social media – financial services, based on transparency and security, data backup and entirely new ways to share the life around them.”
David Marcus has stepped out as the team leader of Messenger due to his experience as a Coinbase director and board member. His strength and knowledge in blockchain and cryptocurrencies can power up the newly-forming team at Facebook.
