Basic Attention Token (BAT) is a decentralized, open-source platform for digital advertising. It's founded by the web pioneer - Brendan Eich and is based on Ethereum.

The token can be used for a wide variety of advertising services on the Brave platform, which is a new digital advertising system, based on the blockchain. With Basic Attention Token, users can completely block ads or pay to control what content they see or even earn tokens by simply viewing regular ads. The token can be exchanged between users, publishers, and advertisers, and it only works within the Brave platform. The native browser BAT provides blocks malicious content, advertisements, and anonymously monitors user attention.

There are some issues with most of the standard browser plugins as they don't work with the Brave platform as of yet, but this is something that may change in time.
