Apple Seeks An Expert With Crypto Experience In ‘Alternative Payments’ Job
Apple may be developing its own cryptocurrency as the company posted a job opening on Wednesday, May 26, which denotes “candidates should have five years or more working in or with alternative payment providers, such as digital wallets, BNPL [buy now pay later], Fast Payments, cryptocurrency and etc.”
Rumors about Apple entering the crypto space with its own cryptocurrency roamed the brand community for quite some time, but the job post is the first indicator that such an event could possibly happen. According to the job post, the expert would be Apple’s main negotiator for the alternative payments space.
“The Apple Wallets, Payments, and Commerce (WPC) team is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to lead Alternative Payments Partnerships. We are looking for a proven professional in global alternative and emerging payment solutions. We need your help forming partnership framework and commercial models, defining implementation paradigms, identifying key players, and managing relationships with strategic alternative payment partners,” the job offer states.
Apple, however, has been quiet about accepting cryptocurrencies as payment methods. Since its inception, the Apple App Store platform forced customers to play by their rules in terms of payment. Furthermore, Apple’s tightly controlled ecosystem is under fire in the form of a court fight, issued by Fortnite developer Epic Games.
In the lawsuit, Epic sues Apple over the tech company violating antitrust laws and stifle payments innovation. According to Epic Games, app and game developers could accept “bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies”, if it wasn’t for Apple’s payment rules.
Apple’s stance on the crypto sector, however, is still not disclosed.
