PundiX Unveils the First Blockchain Powered Smartphone
The ‘XPhone’ utilizes Function X, a new transmission protocol and ecosystem built solely for the blockchain age. This innovation profoundly expands the application of blockchain technology beyond the transfer of financial assets.
Compared to other blockchain-powered mobile phones in the development stage, the XPhone can operate independently away from centralized carriers. The users will have the power to route messages and phone calls, and transmit data securely through the blockchain nodes without the need of having a phone number.
The Function X enables the users to receive and send all kinds of data through a secure eco-system known as FXTP while storing the files in a decentralized system called IPFX. Users will also be able to securely share data like when using the blockchain technology online, while developers will have the power to publish decentralized applications with ease through FXTP.
According to the CTO and Co-founder of Pundi X – Pitt Huang, the company develops technology aimed at creating solutions to the challenges facing the blockchain to make it useful in our daily lives.
In his statement, Huang recalled that it took decades before the internet could be widely spread for its application in reshaping the global economy, governance, and human relationships. As the blockchain technology is still at the experimental stage, protocols such as Function X could be transformational like the browser to the internet.
The co-founder and CEO of Pundi X, Zac Cheah, said that the new smartphone has the potential of establishing a large pool of global nodes that could help achieve decentralization and scalability for the entire blockchain eco-system. This could be accomplished with wide geographic spread and a significant number of nodes. In his statement, the CEO noted that Function X would have an important implication on blockchain’s future.
Function X is expected to give rise to an extensive network that can offer a better scale for potential applications and achieve true decentralization that the blockchain technology promises.
Xphone’s trial demo units were unveiled today to the attendees of the XBlochain summit at Bali. This blockchain based mobile phone comes with great features like:
- A blockchain-based OS
- Receiving and sharing data securely through the Function X blockchain eco-system
- Sending messages and receiving calls without using independent carriers
- Every single XPhone is a blockchain node
- Decentralized data storage
Pundi X is a renowned developer of blockchain solutions, responsible for creating the first POS (Point-of-sale) solution to enable consumers and merchants to transact in brick-and-mortar stores using the blockchain.
The POS (XPOS) is available in various markets including Brazil, Taiwan, Korea, Switzerland, Colombia, and the UK. The company has set the target of installing over 100,000 units around the world by 2021.
