Turkey Unveils Blockchain-Based E-Human Project
Turkey may soon enter into the blockchain space in full steam, as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that the e-Human governmental project would be powered by blockchain technology.
Blockchain would serve as a medium for handling and securing all of the services, data, and capabilities used by the system. The project would act as a digital service point, enabling Turkey’s government to share data about its services and tools in the career, remote education, and talent acquisition realms.
The project is also aimed at students, new graduates, and public employees, which can use the platform to find jobs and internships in both the public and private sectors, as well as training for public employees, career fairs held in Turkey, events and educational content from the e-Human portal.
Turkey’s road towards cryptos
The e-Human project is the latest addition to the multitude of strategic partnerships in the crypto space. Indeed, Turkey’s national car company TOGG announced a strategic partnership with Avalanche’s Ava Labs in the quest to build safe and fast mobility services with smart contracts.
However, the crypto-friendly nature of Turkey turned upside-down as President Erdoğan launched an all-out war against the use of cryptocurrencies and banned crypto payments in local goods and services in April 2021.
Nevertheless, Turkey’s government continued to explore the ecosystem while building several blockchain projects of its own, despite the anti-crypto stance of both parliament and the President. The government even unveiled a National Blockchain Infrastructure plan with the e-Human project at its core. The COVID-19 virus may be among the key reasons for the several delays, as the plan was announced back in 2019.
The Turkish population is increasing its crypto adoption, with the country being a host to several global events, such as Istanbul Blockchain Week and Blockchain Economy Istanbul. Turkey is also home to an expanding local developer ecosystem, which aims to bring the DevCon event to its country. The government, on the other hand, is still lacking in adoption with the e-Human project being among the first public blockchain products from the lawmakers.
The stark contrast was made obvious, as data from Chainalysis showed that Turkey was among one of the fastest-growing crypto markets. It turns out that Chainalysis’ 2022 Global Cryptocurrency Adoption Index ranked Turkey in the top 20 countries in terms of crypto adoption.
