To begin using Civic (CVC), one needs to download the Civic app on their mobile device. Users then can verify as part of the account creation. Afterward, they have access to Civic’s Secure Identity Platform (SIP) – a blockchain, allowing real-time authorization of identity. The user can authorize an Identity Requester to receive the said identity. The Identity Requester will be notified that the Civic user is who they claim to be after a few simple confirmations from a trusted third-party Identity Partner or Civic itself. The identity check is performed using a range of public records, which can include the user’s contact information, credit checks, or even social media accounts. Third-party Validators can use all the information they have on the person when auditing a request. There are manual audits and fraud detection algorithms that serve to help the network for the approval of valid requests, while at the same time rejecting the ones that are fraudulent. This is proven to have a high success rate. Civic also does not keep personally identifiable information (PII) for any user on files. Data is only stored in the Civic app on the mobile device, chosen by the user. Transactions are not available without a biometric proof of identity (thumbprint, facial or voice recognition). This is to ensure that only users can access their information.
