Child chains are considered to be a next-generation blockchain technology, in which the smaller blockchains can be independent in their features and at the same time existing on and imbuing qualities from a bigger parent blockchain. Jelurida is developing a scalable blockchain platform named Ardor which will allow the existence of multiple blockchains simultaneously and guard their security on a global level.

Ardor's first child chain is named Ignis and all existing and tested Nxt blockchain features are available on it. The Ignis project incorporates a lot of various features and tools, starting from asset exchange and going to coin shuffling. In general, it is considered to be a test coin for this particular blockchain model, so its release is a significant event in the crypto world.

Child chains are supposed to help bigger blockchains with their scalability issues, which turn out to be one of the hottest problems for blockchains.
