On June 18th the non-profit association Freedom of the Press Foundation, which encourages and defends free speech, press, and television, announced that all who wish to support the association would be able to do so through five different cryptocurrencies

The company revealed that the accepted donations could be in BCH, LTC, ZEC, ETH, and BTC. This will help finance the different ventures that advocate freedom of speech, including its “whistleblower” framework for submitting signals about censorship.

The Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF), established in 2012, advocates for free speech and a life without media censorship. The board of directors of the association includes key media influencers such as Glenn Greenwald, Daniel Ellsberg, Laura Poitras, and one of the world’s censorship fighters – Edward Snowden, alongside activists, filmmakers, and journalists. The FPF manages an open-source censorship signal framework called SecureDrop which was likewise co-made by the hacktivist Aaron Swartz.

"We are satisfied to declare that press freedom activists and cryptocurrency devotees would now be able to help Freedom of the Press Foundation with digital currencies. Your donations help our undertakings to propel freedom of spoken and written words, including SecureDrop, the open-source informant accommodation stage utilized by more than 60 news associations around the world. Decentralized innovation can propel the capacity of people to oppose spying and censorship“, stated the FPF.  

The association is working towards including more cryptocurrencies as payment methods soon and incorporating help for Zcash protected locations soon. The blockchain company Mainframe donated 1000 ETH to the organization.

Mick Hagen, CEO of Mainframe stated that protection of freedom, privacy, and outstanding digital security is the key focus for their community.
