Dorsey plans to improve the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter and Square, announced that Square’s dev team would expand with up to 5 developers, who will “contribute to the open-source nature of Bitcoin and the crypto ecosystem”.

Dorsey tweeted that Square will be hiring four software engineers and one designer for full-time employment at Square. The engineers must have prior experience in building blockchains. The job openings are based in San Francisco, but Dorsey plans to have a freelance option. The engineers and designer will report directly to Twitter’s CEO, which means Dorsey will be directly involved in the new Bitcoin project.

Twitter’s CEO explained details about Square’s new initiative, stating that the idea of hiring people to better the crypto ecosystem is something that “rang the bell” and Dorsey went all-in. This is Square’s pilot open-source project, but Dorsey explained it has nothing to do with Square’s business model. The work on the project will be wholly detached from Square’s growth plans, and developers will work entirely on their own.

The project aims to act as a catalyst for further crypto community improvements and economic empowerment. The open-source nature of the project will give the crypto community transparency and smooth implementation of the code. This is Square’s way of “giving back” to the open-source community which made Square what it is today.

The designer on the team will be in charge of making the crypto ecosystem user-friendly by making UI and UX designs that are easier to understand and use. Dorsey added that great designs often help to bring down the wall of hesitation when it comes to the crypto realm.

This is, by far, the boldest move by Jack Dorsey into the crypto sector. For now, the entrepreneur is focusing on Bitcoin, but Dorsey’s acts on supporting the crypto industry are showing his interest in the digital currency market as a whole.
During an interview with Joe Rogan, Dorsey stated his support for the crypto community, cryptocurrencies, and Bitcoin in particular. He told Rogan that the Internet always wanted its currency and now the community has all the tools needed for making it happen. “Bitcoin has been put through its paces. Its principles are clear and understandable.”, Dorsey added.

On a different interview, this time with podcaster Stephen Livera, Dorsey stated that Square might include support for the Lightning Network. Also, as evident from his Twitter feed, Dorsey is buying and selling Bitcoin weekly to support Lightning Network.
