Augur is a decentralized system which has been designed to be a prediction market. The software works by collecting information from a broad base of participants. To summarize data on the blockchain, Augur comes up with a forecast citing the most probable outcome/s of a particular event. Like many cryptocurrencies, the highest level of REP was reached in the first days of 2018 jumping over the $100 barrier, but later Augur was devalued hitting as low as 24 USD before recovering half of its greatest cost so far. With a fixed number of coins – 11 million, fewer than most digital currencies, such fluctuations might change fortunes in a matter of hours.
